May 23 — Meet the CEO of Meetup, David Siegel, who teaches us to “Decide and Conquer”

Monday Morning Magic, May 23, 2022 — Get ready to Decide and Conquer with author David Siegel, CEO of the powerful networking group Meetup. In his new book, he helps leaders learn about 44 decisions that will make or break their success.

I had the privilege of meeting David during a recent interview with my client Margarita Cheng, CFP® Pro, on her weekly video podcast Margaritas with Marguerita. She asked David about one of his favorite concepts—called the pivoting strategy—and how Meetup embraced this idea during the pandemic when the company’s communities couldn’t meet in person. You’ll also learn about a few of the 44 best practices he describes in his book, his path to becoming the CEO of Meetup where he practices the art of radical transparency. Click here to listen to the podcast: and here to watch the interview on Inkandescent.tv.

About David: With more than 20 years of experience as a technology and digital media executive, David landed the CEO job at Meetup after running the popular organizations Investopedia and Seeking Alpha. He holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, and is an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where he teaches strategic planning and entrepreneurship. Currently, David hosts the podcast Keep Connected, which is dedicated to the power of community. In his book, Decide & Conquer (HarperCollins), he lays out the framework for decision-making that leaders can use to ensure organizational and personal success.

About Decide and Conquer: To help leaders navigate the big decisions that will impact their future and make their organizations a success, David outlines the 44 challenges leaders face when starting a new position. He then shows you the decision framework he applied to overcome challenges in his own role. He takes you on an epic journey of corporate and personal survival that includes industry titans like Adam Neumann, Barry Diller, Jack Welch, Bill Ackman, and other leaders. Check out the book here!

We leave you with this parting thought of the week from David: “Success boils down to one thing: making good decisions. Learn the right framework now that can make all the difference later when faced with terrible options, deep anxiety, and fear of failure.”

Until next Monday: May you choose to apply principles including open communication, transparency, and kindness to inform all your important decision-making. — Hope Katz Gibbs, founder, and president, Inkandescent™ Inc.
